Article for reference.

VR, short for virtual reality is rumored to be the next big thing for the future. In all honesty, VR is what people from the 1960s would have envisioned the future to be like. Interestingly, they were correct. If the trends of the industry progresses, then soon all development will be made with VR in mind or as a competitor. It wouldn't be a far stretch to see a bunch of people wearing big futuristic displays over their eyes on a regular basis.

Let's first discuss the negatives. It would be interesting to see how each industry attempts to tackle the natural downfalls of VR. I believe the biggest current issues are: physical limitation, bad vision, and base cost. Physical limitation, the thing is just too darn big. It's heavy, clunky and really that's just apart of the natural evolution of technology. However, one cannot neglect just how physically limiting the current models are. Bad vision does not mean that users will deteriorate their vision. Bad vision refers to how the VR headset attempts to bend the field of vision improperly to those with bad eyesight. Models are already active to tackle this issue but companies are going to have to develop the display with more than just higher contrast. Finally, the cost. Jeez, a minimum of a GTX 970 just to be able to support the bottom line of VR display on PC. I could only imagine how expensive the consoles will be. Although the phone headsets are nice and cheap, they still need a ton of work before they are ready for heavy distribution.

Although the negatives sound difficult, VR actually has a great potential to positively impact society. Virtual reality has all sorts of benefits and really helps to meet many unexpected areas for integration. For example, courts can use VR to recreate witness testimonies. Architects can use VR to show case a hypothetical building before the construction begins. As a society, communication is huge. We moved from displaying a still image to displaying live broadcasts in huge 4k displays. Now VR allows for a person to completely share what it's like to be in the same scenario as another person -a completely new perspective! VR is a very interesting concept and it is very exciting to see how the industries will develop the tool.
